Tasty Tequila

Tonight I went to an event for Trago, a brand of tequila that just launched in a few U.S. markets. It's what I'd call a vanity spirit- one launched by a business person with a branding concept rather than by a craftsperson with years of experience. But they can buy good ingredients and the skills of said craftspeople, so really, what does it matter? I like Trago in all three of its forms- Silver, Reposado, and Anejo. The Silver had a nice crisp pepper taste. The Reposado has a less pronounced sharpness and adds a wonderful creamy layer of brown sugar or caramel that comes from aging just four months in new American oak barrels. It seemed to last on the palate for minutes. The Anejo is aged for 18 months in used bourbon barrels and tastes like the other two combined and magnified. It's got both the pepper bite and the wood creaminess. Still, I liked the Reposado the best.
