South African police stalk gold mine pirates
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (Reuters) -- In a dangerous cat-and-mouse game, South African police are battling armed gangs of gold pirates through dark mine shafts deep underground to stop an illicit gold trade worth more than $700 million a year.
Assistant Police Commissioner Mike Fryer said the new operation -- pitting police against pirate miners in shafts as deep as 1.25 miles below the surface -- opened a fresh front in South Africa's war against gold smuggling.
Gold mine pirates! That's fucking glam!

sorry to comment on the wrong blog, but i needed to vent. I didn't quite get your blog about california accents bc I'm from ny and have been to la once when i was 13. Well, I just got off the phone with someone at apple support (not so supportive, naturally), who said, "If you're not covered? It will be a $29 charge for the call? Did you want to go ahead with that?" I wanted to ask her what the question was.
